RudeBoi is an American rapper and songwriter whose music is deeply rooted in the underground Memphis sound and Southern hip-hop culture. His passion for music began at an early age during junior high school, where he joined the school band. Although he was never given the opportunity to play the instrument he truly wanted—the saxophone—his love for music continued to grow and eventually led him toward a career in rap.
After moving to Memphis at the age of 19, RudeBoi became heavily influenced by the city's culture, sound, and legendary artists. Drawing inspiration from icons such as Kingpin Skinny Pimp, D.O.C., C-Bo, MC Ren, Rakim, Slick Rick, Geto Boys, Bobby Brown, and many others, he developed a raw, authentic style that combines vivid storytelling with gritty Southern production.
RudeBoi's music reflects his real-life experiences and the harsh realities of growing up in poverty. Raised by his grandmother after both of his parents became incarcerated, he experienced adversity from a young age and became involved in street life and the drug trade early on. His journey eventually led to lengthy periods of incarceration in some of the toughest prisons in Texas, experiences that would later become the foundation of his music.
Through his lyrics, RudeBoi shares stories of struggle, survival, pain, redemption, and victory. His music offers listeners an unfiltered look into the realities of street life while also highlighting the resilience required to overcome difficult circumstances. Over the years, he has collaborated with respected Southern hip-hop artists, including Memphis legends Kingpin Skinny Pimp and Indo G, as well as several Hispanic artists from Houston, further cementing his reputation as an authentic voice within underground Southern rap.
